We welcome children of all
ages. At St. Andrew’s, we recognize that children are an important part of the
congregation; they are included in a number of ways. The collection of food for
the Food Bank, the participation in Communion and the presentation of songs
learned in Sunday School are opportunities for the children to be included in
the Worship service and to feel a part of the church family. Annually we make
Valentines and hand them out to the congregation on the Sunday closest to
Valentine’s Day. Each Christmas, the children have been a part of the Advent
celebration, presenting a White Gift Sunday play. Occasionally the children join
the senior choir for special events and add their voices to celebrate our faith. Three of our graduate students have joined the team of ushers.

Our classes are small and our staff is
professional. Jeanette Northrop, a retired music teacher, teaches the children
songs each week, both the old familiar tunes and newer tunes designed to enhance
our Bible stories musically. Marilyn Tudhope and Jeanette Northrop provide leadership through story telling and crafts. We have created
rhythm instruments, mobiles and Valentines as well as experienced word
searches, mazes, drawing and colouring . We believe that this time is important
to make Bible stories relevant and valuable to the children of St. Andrew’s.

Each Sunday at St.
Andrew’s, the children share
a special time with the
minister prior to going to
the third floor of the
church hall for Sunday
School. Initially, we
gather as a large group.
Together, we share offering,
songs, prayers and a story.
Then the children go to a
small age-appropriate class
for artwork, crafts and
puzzles that re-inforce the
lesson of the weekly Bible
story.

Although Sunday school classes began on September 11, the official welcome was on Rally Sunday, September 18th, the day of hot dog lunch. This fall, we will once again use the curriculum from One Room Sunday School.
We will study the old Testament stories of Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob, Esau and Joseph. The themes that will occur throughout these lessons are God’s calls for us as his people, forgiveness, and blessing. As always the last lesson of the unit will lead straight into Advent.
We are sorry to announce that Sheila Smith who did much of our nursery duty last year is no longer available because she has a new job that requires her to work on Sunday. We will miss her very much; we thank her very much for her dedication to St. Andrew’s and especially to the Sunday school.

Nursery is provided each Sunday
for the duration of the worship service. The nursery is located on the
main floor of the church hall near the Minister’s office and the washroom.Michelle Coltman who attended St. Andrew's Sunday School as a young girl has agreed to work in the nursery on Sundays. The nursery is suitable for infants and toddlers. Children
make the transition from the nursery to Sunday school at age two or three,
whenever the parent thinks the child is ready for the next step. |

Why I Come to St. Andrew’s United Church
By Trevor – age 7
I have
been coming to St. Andrew’s United
Church since I was 2 ˝ weeks old.
I like
coming to church because I like to learn
about God and Jesus at story time and at
Sunday School. I really enjoy the
singing and making crafts. It feels
good when I help people by donating my
offering money to the Food Bank.
Someday, I
hope I can ring the bells.
I feel
happy and safe here and I have a lot of
friends here who care about me.
This is
why I like to come to St. Andrew’s. |
